Toronto said Wednesday it has parted ways with head coach Craig Berube, with general manager John Chayka framing the move as an organizational shift rather than a judgment on Berube personally.
Chayka called Berube a tremendous coach and said the club wanted a fresh start, adding that the next head coach will decide the rest of the coaching staff.
Two seasons under Berube ended with Toronto missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016 after a 32-36 campaign and 78 points, finishing last in the Atlantic Division.
John Chayka, newly installed as general manager, now begins a broader reset that starts with hiring a new coach and reshaping the staff.
