An unvaccinated adult male in Travis County tested positive for measles after international travel, marking the county’s first reported case since 2025.
St. David’s Emergency Center on Anderson Mill Road was an exposure site Monday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. while the patient was infectious, and Austin Public Health is contacting people who may have interacted with him.
Up to 9 in 10 unprotected people nearby can catch measles from an infected person, health officials said, warning the airborne disease can cause hospitalization, serious complications and death.
Austin Public Health urged anyone who may have been exposed to isolate at home, contact a healthcare provider and get vaccinated, especially as the case raises risks for children, pregnant women and immunocompromised people.
