57% of Canadians, 40% of Germans, 34% of French and 42% of Britons in a Politico-Public First poll said China is a more reliable partner than the U.S. under Donald Trump.

Overview
Traditional U.S. allies are experiencing a dramatic shift in their global outlook, now viewing the United States under President Trump as a significant threat while increasingly recognizing China’s growing role in world affairs. Recent polling from early 2026 shows a profound erosion of trust in Washington, with many Europeans perceiving the U.S. as unreliable. This change is a reaction to perceived U.S. unilateralism and rule-breaking, pushing Europe to seek greater strategic autonomy and a more realistic balance in international relations. As a result, more people worldwide are considering China as better suited to make the world a better place.
