Three months after James Van Der Beek’s death, Kimberly Van Der Beek posted an emotional Instagram tribute saying the “comforts of shock” had faded and the reality of the loss was settling in.
Family photos accompanied the post, in which she thanked supporters for a “tremendous” outpouring of help and said the support had carried her family “in the most beautiful of ways.”
James Van Der Beek, best known for playing Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek from 1998 to 2003, died of bowel cancer in February and is survived by Kimberly and their six children.
Before his death, the 48-year-old actor said cancer treatment had left the family financially strained, prompting fundraising efforts and an auction of memorabilia from Dawson’s Creek and Varsity Blues.
