Sarah Ashlee Barker grabbed Bridget Carleton’s missed 3-pointer and scored just before the horn, lifting expansion Portland to a 98-96 win over New York for the franchise’s first victory.
Bridget Carleton drove the upset with a career-high 26 points and five 3-pointers, while Carla Leite added 21 points and six assists as Portland improved to 1-1.
New York still put all five starters in double figures, led by rookie Pauline Astier’s season-high 24 points, but a late three-second violation gave Portland the final possession.
