MV Hebrides is due back on the Little Minch on Wednesday afternoon, letting CalMac restore planned service levels by week’s end on Coll, Colonsay, Mull, South Uist and Tiree.
Engineers fixed a leak in the ferry’s bow visor, ending a key part of the disruption that had hit CalMac’s west coast network for weeks.
10 of CalMac’s 32 vessels were out of action at one point in April because of technical faults, annual overhauls or crewing issues, turning the ferry problems into a Scottish election campaign issue.
Two more major vessels are still due back this month — MV Isle of Lewis after a 3-month dry-dock extension and MV Finlaggan — which should further strengthen network resilience.
