Robert Kagan said the United States is nearing “checkmate” in its war with Iran, arguing defeat is now likely and cannot be undone.
The Atlantic essay ties that warning to Iran’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz, which Kagan says makes Tehran the key regional player and leaves President Donald Trump with few workable options.
