Rep. Brandon Gill will lead a new House Oversight task force that opened with a records request to Ohio Medicaid over alleged fraud in home- and community-based services.
The probe follows reporting that 288 Columbus home health companies shared addresses and billed more than $250 million in Medicaid funds from 2018 to 2024, despite doubts many properly delivered services.
James Comer authorized the panel for six months, with hearings expected later, and said weak internal controls may be allowing providers to exploit vulnerable patients while draining taxpayer money.
Ohio Medicaid said it already has safeguards and had been investigating suspect home health companies before the report surfaced.
The task force will also examine social-welfare abuse beyond Ohio, as Oversight Republicans pursue similar inquiries in Minnesota and California and Ohio's governor's race sharpens focus on the state's $40 billion-plus Medicaid budget.
