Eileen Wang, the former mayor of Arcadia, was charged with acting as an illegal agent of China and resigned; prosecutors said she pushed pro-Beijing messaging from 2020 to 2022 before taking office.
Wang agreed to plead guilty and admitted acting under the direction and control of the Chinese government, exposing her to up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
