Wednesday’s Georgia court hearing will start the extradition process for Damarian Jones, 17, who was arrested Monday after nearly a month on the run in the Iowa City Ped Mall shooting.
Five attempted murder counts headline the charges after investigators said Jones grabbed a gun during a fight involving as many as 40 people and fired six shots into the crowded mall.
Five bystanders were hit around 1:45 a.m. on April 19, and police said none appeared to be targets or otherwise connected to the fight.
One victim remains in critical condition with a head wound, while two others suffered serious injuries requiring surgery; family updates said University of Iowa student Miranda Peters has shown small signs of progress.
Jones is being held in the Clayton County Jail in Georgia, and officials said his transfer to Iowa could take anywhere from a few days to several weeks.
Beyond the shooter, who else will be held accountable for the 40-person brawl that injured five innocent bystanders?
