Nearly 47,000 nonfarm jobs were added in March, lifting Texas to a record more than 14 million total jobs and keeping the state ahead of the nation in job growth.
Texas outpaced the U.S. job growth rate by 0.2 percentage point, a gain economists tied to the state's lack of income tax and relatively light regulation.
The statewide unemployment rate held at 4.3% in March, while Bryan-College Station posted a lower 3.2% rate and Waco stood at 4.2% in January and February.
Thousands of openings remain available in the Heart of Texas region, where Workforce Solutions is promoting free job-search help and a May 22 Summer Hiring Blitz focused on healthcare, manufacturing and computer science.
