Iran can likely absorb the U.S. naval blockade for months without a major economic crisis, analysts and Western officials said, undercutting earlier Trump claims that its oil system could fail within days.
6 million to 8 million barrels a week are now being loaded onto tankers, down from about 11 million, as Tehran cuts production and redirects more crude to domestic refining and consumption.
30 million barrels of Iranian oil already at sea in Asia, plus experience from past sanction-driven output cuts, give Tehran a cushion that may help it avoid widespread well shutdowns.
Within two months, storage limits could still force some wells offline, and a prolonged blockade would deepen budget shortfalls, inflation and import costs even if oil infrastructure avoids lasting damage.
The blockade is meant to choke Iran's oil revenue and force concessions over the Strait of Hormuz, but officials and experts say the regime remains entrenched enough to withstand near-term pressure.
