June 29 is the date set for David Anthony Burke’s preliminary hearing, a proceeding expected to last at least five days and determine whether the case goes to trial.
Prosecutors say the 21-year-old singer killed 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez after she threatened to expose a year of sexual abuse, then dismembered her body; Burke has pleaded not guilty.
A status conference is scheduled for June 17 after Burke’s lawyers dropped their push for an immediate hearing as prosecutors turned over what they called a massive trove of digital evidence.
That evidence includes material from devices and a nine-page filing alleging Burke ordered a chainsaw, burn cage and shovel after the killing; Hernandez’s dismembered body was later found in a Tesla linked to him.
