Update 0.17.1.0 adds Phasmophobia’s first in-game crossover, a limited-time Alan Wake 2 event featuring the Dark Place storyline, new riddles and unlockable cosmetics.
A 5-second post-death delay is the main gameplay tweak, letting single-player users choose a ghost in the Journal before the death flow completes.
The patch also removes inventory-swap animation, makes salt place instantly, frees Prestige cosmetics once unlocked, and delivers broad animation, ghost, equipment, environment, multiplayer and VR fixes.
Known issues still remain, including some equipment animation glitches, EMF Reader delays on consoles and a few visibility bugs, but the update clears many long-standing visual and gameplay inconsistencies.
The crossover runs until June 2 across Steam, Xbox, PS5 and PS VR2, extending a game that first launched in PC early access in 2020 and reached consoles in 2024.
Will Alan Wake's reality-bending horror leave a permanent mark on Phasmophobia's gameplay after the event disappears?
With its new publishing arm, is Kinetic Games using this crossover to test a future connected gaming universe?
