Suzanne Droubie, Pima County’s assessor, said Sheriff Chris Nanos rebuked her after her office gave FBI-requested data on Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance to federal investigators.
Droubie told the Arizona Republic Nanos said the extra material created more work for deputies, who had to chase every lead, and left her feeling the office was doing more harm than good.
The dispute adds to a broader rift between the sheriff and the FBI in the 14-week-old case, which began when local authorities sent DNA to a Florida lab instead of the FBI’s Quantico facility.
That DNA reached the FBI only 11 weeks later for advanced testing, while Nanos also faces separate political pressure as two county supervisors say they will seek to vacate his office over unrelated perjury allegations.
As Sheriff Nanos faces removal for perjury, is his leadership crisis endangering the search for Nancy Guthrie?
With a sheriff feuding with the FBI, can Nancy Guthrie's high-profile abduction case ever be solved?
