eMagin Demos 0.62-Inch OLED Smart Glasses as Samsung Eyes AR Debut Later in 2026

  • At SID Display Week, eMagin showed waveguide smart glasses that project video through transparent lenses using 0.62-inch OLED microdisplays, though the setup was a stand-behind demo rather than a wearable prototype.
  • The concept uses micro OLEDs hidden in the frame to beam images into the lens edges, where etched waveguide patterns direct light to the eye and overlay digital content on a real-world view.
  • The displays deliver 1,280-by-1,024 resolution, more than 20,000 nits, up to 85Hz and a 99% color gamut; the demo loop showed YouTube viewing, messaging and meal nutrition lookup.
  • Because the glasses were not fully wearable, the demo left practical hurdles such as battery life, weight and onboard computing unresolved.
  • eMagin, acquired by Samsung Display in 2023, pitched the technology for consumer AR as well as military, medical and industrial uses, while Samsung Electronics is still expected to unveil its own smart glasses later this year.
With rivals like Apple and Meta, will Samsung's new display tech finally crack the code for AR glasses?
