Ian Wright's early life is being adapted into a biopic co-produced by Stormzy's #Merky Films, with the former Arsenal striker saying it is the first time his story has been brought together in full.
The film will trace Wright's childhood in Woolwich, abusive home life and repeated club rejections before football became his route out and his raw talent finally drew professional interest in his early 20s.
Sydney Pigden, the teacher Wright credits with helping him read, write and believe in himself, is set to be a major character alongside the football story.
Stormzy, serving as executive producer, said Wright's journey reaches beyond football into resilience, family and self-belief; casting, director and release-date details will come later.
How will Ian Wright's biopic balance football fame with the untold story of his Windrush-era childhood?
With Stormzy producing, will this film focus more on social struggle than on-pitch glory?
