$250 and $300 new Forerunner models bring Garmin features such as Training Readiness, Training Status and wrist-based running metrics to buyers who previously had to spend $500 or more.
Both watches add 1.2-inch AMOLED touch displays, keep Garmin’s five-button controls, track 80 activities and carry a 5ATM water-resistance rating for swimming and other everyday sports use.
The $300 Forerunner 170 adds Garmin Pay, while a $350 Music version supports offline songs and podcasts; Garmin also pitches adaptive workout suggestions and broad health tracking including sleep, pulse oximetry and HRV.
Battery life reaches 13 days on the Forerunner 70, versus 10 days on the 170 Music, positioning the lineup as a more affordable sports-focused alternative to pricier Garmin models and Apple watches.
