A 3-hour wait for clouds to clear preceded Snyder’s tandem hang-gliding flight at Lookout Mountain Flight Park in Rising Fawn, Georgia, where safe visibility finally opened a launch window.
An ultralight towplane pulled the glider aloft to about 1,700 feet, and the flight lasted roughly 8 to 10 minutes before a smooth landing back at the park.
Dalton, Snyder’s tandem pilot, said he had flown about 1,000 times, and Snyder said his constant communication and control kept her from feeling unsafe.
Lookout Mountain also offers beginner tandem flights up to 3,000 feet; Dalton said strong thermals can lift hang gliders to 10,000 feet, far above Snyder’s comfort zone.
Snyder, who had rejected the idea in 2022, called the experience exhilarating and said she would do it again.
