iPhone 18 Pro Misses Dual-Layer OLED as Apple Eyes LTPO+ Upgrade

Instant Digital said Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro definitely will not get dual-layer OLED, signaling no major fix yet for sustained outdoor brightness on Pro models.
Apple’s current thermal management is cited as the bottleneck: without changes to throttling, higher peak brightness cannot be maintained, while dual-layer OLED would cut heat by spreading output across layers.
The display upgrade still under consideration for the iPhone 18 Pro is LTPO+, which should improve battery efficiency through finer OLED power control but not solve brightness or heat limits.
Earlier supply-chain reporting pointed to tandem OLED for iPhone no sooner than after 2028, with Apple still weighing Samsung Display and LG Display and reviewing a simplified design rather than the iPad Pro’s full tandem stack.
Why can Apple put a next-gen screen in an iPad, but not in its flagship iPhone 18 Pro?
Is a core thermal flaw forcing Apple to delay a major iPhone screen upgrade until after 2028?
