Defending Education said SPLC’s Learning for Justice materials are embedded in K-12 lesson plans, trainings and district policies in 169 districts across 42 states and Washington, D.C.
The watchdog said the program promotes concepts including anti-racism, Black Lives Matter, gender ideology and queer theory, with examples reaching as early as pre-K and kindergarten in districts such as Cambridge, Yonkers and Princeton.
State and public institutions cited in the report include the New York State Education Department, the California Department of Education, the Illinois State Board of Education, Chicago Public Schools and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian.
The warning lands weeks after a federal 11-count indictment accused the Alabama-based SPLC of wire fraud, false statements and money laundering tied to about $3 million paid to informants from 2014 to 2023; SPLC denies wrongdoing.
