Lupita Nyong’o will play both Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, confirming fan speculation around the film’s ensemble casting.
Nolan said he chose not to cast Mount Olympus gods as physical characters, instead using nature and the characters’ beliefs to convey divine presence through storms, seas and Poseidon’s wrath.
Anne Hathaway said the cast stayed in modest lodging on a small Sicilian island to keep the film’s estimated $250 million budget focused on the screen rather than off-set perks.
The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, is billed as the first feature shot entirely in IMAX, and is set for theatrical release on July 17.
