Google is expected to use I/O 2026 to launch or at least detail its first AI smart glasses, bringing a product it has teased since unveiling Android XR in December 2024 closer to market.
Gemini is the core interface: the glasses are designed for voice-led use, can see what users see, and can handle translation, messaging, Maps navigation, searches, and photo or video capture through a connected phone.
Google has shown multiple form factors, from glasses without displays to lens-display models and Xreal's Project Aura, while partners already tied to the platform include Warby Parker, Gentle Monster and Kering.
Pricing remains undisclosed, but Android XR devices span a wide range: Samsung's Galaxy XR headset sells for $1,799, while rumored Samsung smart glasses run from $379 to $900.
A 2026 release still looks plausible even without a full I/O launch, as Google pushes Android XR against Meta's glasses, Apple's expected 2026 entry and OpenAI wearable hardware targeted for 2027.
