Noon Thursday closures will shut the 100-600 blocks of State Street, parts of West Mifflin, North Carroll and West Gilman until 1 a.m. Friday for the returning Madison Night Market.
Metro Transit will reroute the A, B, F and R lines from 11:40 a.m. through end of service, though A, B and F riders can still use Capitol Square BRT stations.
State Street traffic can still cross at most intersections except West Gilman, while displaced riders are directed to stops on Gorham, Bassett, West Washington and the Square.
Thursday's market runs 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., features vendors and downtown business specials, and is themed around Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Madison has four more Night Markets scheduled this year: June 11, Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 15.
As the night market's popularity explodes, is its success becoming a burden for the downtown community it's meant to serve?
Does the market's strict 'handmade only' rule for vendors truly foster local entrepreneurship or does it limit economic diversity?
