EU Clears 2 Merger Cases Including Foxconn-Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Venture

Two merger cases won European Commission approval on Monday: Foxconn and Mitsubishi Fuso’s bus manufacturing joint venture, and Telia and Brookfield’s planned joint acquisition of Finnish fibre company Valokuitunen.
The Commission said neither deal raised competition concerns under EU merger rules because the bus venture would have limited impact in the European Economic Area and Valokuitunen has negligible EEA activities.
The Foxconn venture with Mitsubishi Fuso — controlled by Daimler Truck — will focus mainly on manufacturing and supplying heavy and light buses.
The separate Telia-Brookfield deal centers on wholesale fixed internet access, the network services other providers buy to sell home and business broadband.
Both transactions were handled under the EU’s simplified merger review procedure and are listed in the public register as cases M.12376 and M.12377.
