Zack Polanski said he has taken steps to pay any council tax he may owe after the Green Party acknowledged he had, until recently, been living on a houseboat in London.
Hackney mooring rules mean a boat is liable for council tax if it is a person's sole or main residence, and tax lawyer Dan Neidle said Polanski and his partner should have paid if that was the case.
The Times had questioned whether tax was paid over the past three years, citing a boat sale listing saying the couple were "moving house" and reports they regularly stayed on the narrowboat.
The party had previously said Polanski rented a London room where council tax was included and stayed on the boat only occasionally, but now says he apologizes for an unintentional mistake.
