Iron Honor drew post 9 and opened as the 9-2 favorite Monday after the Preakness field was set without Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo.
Golden Tempo was ruled out last week after trainer Cherie DeVaux said the colt needed more recovery time following his May 2 Derby win, ending any Triple Crown bid.
Taj Mahal from post 1, Chip Honcho from post 6 and Incredibolt from post 12 all opened at 5-1, underscoring what the report described as a wide-open 14-horse race.
Chip Honcho adds a notable link to the Derby: Jose Ortiz, who rode Golden Tempo to victory, has the mount for Saturday's 7:01 p.m. ET Preakness.
DeVaux still plans to run Golden Tempo in the June 6 Belmont Stakes, giving the Derby winner roughly a month between races.
