Nia DaCosta will helm the first two episodes of Prime Video’s Sex Criminals and join the series as an executive producer, Amazon said ahead of its Monday upfront presentation.
The adaptation, ordered to series in January, comes from Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon and Tze Chun and is based on Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky’s Image Comics title.
Imogen Poots and John Reynolds will star as a couple who stop time during sex and rob banks; Nanjiani will also appear on screen.
Sex Criminals is DaCosta’s second recent TV commitment after Hulu’s Southern Bastards pilot, extending the filmmaker’s move back to television after The Marvels in 2023.
