$1.17 trillion in foreign currency reserves left Japan’s April stockpile little changed from $1.16 trillion in March, according to Finance Ministry data released Tuesday.
Late-April currency intervention likely did not show up in the tally because it came too close to month-end to be reflected in the reserves data.
That leaves the latest report offering little direct evidence yet of how much Japan may have spent to support the yen, with clearer impact likely in later data.
