The Week is asking readers to craft a slogan of seven words or fewer for a plumbing firm that silences eerie low-frequency sounds from old boilers and pipes.
A new study prompted the contest by linking those inaudible vibrations in older houses to stress-hormone spikes and feelings of discomfort that can make homes seem haunted.
Entries must be emailed to contest@theweek.com with "Haunted plumber" in the subject line and the sender's name, address and daytime phone number.
Noon Eastern on May 12 is the deadline; the winner gets a one-year subscription, with results due online by May 15 and in the May 22 Puzzle Page.
Could the 'ghost' in your old house actually be a plumbing problem that science can now solve?
Beyond spooky feelings, is the invisible noise in your home silently damaging your long-term health?
If official noise standards ignore infrasound, what other invisible environmental threats are we currently missing?
