Up to 90% of Russian drones are now being intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said, describing a stronger battlefield position after what he called the war’s hardest winter.
Western military support helped Ukraine stabilize the front and "close the skies," Sybiha said in Brussels ahead of an EU foreign ministers’ meeting on defense aid and diplomacy.
Sybiha also pointed to Kyiv’s long-range strikes on Russian oil facilities as effective pressure on Moscow; President Volodymyr Zelensky has said those attacks cost Russia $7 billion this year.
Brussels is weighing how Europe could support any future negotiations with Russia, with Sybiha backing a complementary European role alongside U.S.-led peace efforts as Vladimir Putin signals openness to talks.

Ukraine's recent stabilization of its front lines, confirmed by NATO and EU leaders, highlights the importance of its evolving air defense. This stability is closely linked to Ukraine's advancements in countering drone threats, such as the successful use of the innovative STING interceptor drone by the Bulava unit to destroy Russian Shahed-type drones. Developed by the Wild Hornets group, the STING interceptor demonstrates Ukraine's ability to adapt and innovate in modern warfare. These achievements underscore how technological progress in air defense is helping Ukraine manage persistent threats and maintain its defensive position.
