Cody Rhodes said on his podcast that Nintendo sent a cease-and-desist after he wore the Zelda Triforce symbol on his WWE boots during his late-2000s and early-2010s run.
The undisputed WWE champion said he chose the emblem because its three traits—power, courage and wisdom—fit the demands of wrestling and sports entertainment.
Rhodes described Nintendo’s notice as polite rather than aggressive, saying the company was not “coming after anybody” and that others had also used the Triforce.
A 2008 WWE Magazine feature had already shown Rhodes publicly linking the logo on his boots to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, a game he said he replayed every year.
