May 9 TikTok video saw James Charles retract his comments, calling them “rude,” “obnoxious,” “privileged” and “completely unnecessary” after he publicly shamed a former Spirit Airlines employee seeking help.
The backlash followed a since-deleted rant posted a day earlier, when Charles mocked the woman’s GoFundMe message and told her to “get another job” after Spirit abruptly cut 17,000 workers.
Charles said he wrongly assumed she was mass-messaging influencers, acknowledged his own financial safety net, and said he should have ignored the DM instead of humiliating someone who may have been desperate.
He also apologized directly to the former employee and said he hoped to get her contact information so he could “help you out a little bit,” shifting from ridicule to an offer of support.
