Four AI assistants now work through CarPlay: ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini and Copilot can start voice conversations from the dashboard, with the first two offering dedicated app support and the latter two relying on widgets.
iOS 26.4 opened CarPlay to voice-based conversational apps, while iOS 26 added widget support, giving chatbot makers two paths to bring in-car AI access without handling the iPhone.
ChatGPT, Grok and Perplexity already appear as CarPlay apps, though Perplexity's widget is not optimized; ChatGPT also shows Projects, and Grok lets users switch voices from the CarPlay interface.
Claude and Meta AI can be added through CarPlay widgets but do not work properly yet, underscoring that support remains uneven even as Apple expands in-car AI options.
