NBC Plans 2027 Scripted Pilot Push After Ordering 8 and Picking Up 4 Series

Eight scripted pilots this season led NBC to plan another early-2027 pilot push, extending a traditional development model that has largely faded across broadcast and streaming.
Four of those eight became series orders—dramas Line of Fire and The Rockford Files, plus comedies Newlyweds and Sunset P.I.—with two set for fall and two for early 2027.
Lisa Katz said the larger pilot slate gave NBC more options for open schedule slots and let marketing, scheduling and other teams judge finished episodes before committing.
Four other pilots—three dramas and one comedy—were passed over mainly for scheduling fit rather than quality, and Universal Television may shop them to other buyers.
