Nebraska Requires Photo ID for May 12 Primary, Allowing Expired IDs and Provisional Ballots
9 articles · Updated · KETV Omaha · May 7
Nebraska voters must show an approved photo ID to cast ballots in the May 12 primary, continuing a statewide requirement first used in the 2024 primary.
Approved IDs include Nebraska driver’s licenses, state IDs, U.S. passports, military and tribal IDs, and some school-issued photo IDs; expired IDs still count if they show the voter’s name and photo.
Voters without an approved ID can complete a reasonable impediment certification with supporting documents, and the Nebraska DMV offers free state IDs.
Election Day voters who forget ID can return before polls close or cast a provisional ballot, which will be counted only after approved ID is provided to county election officials—by May 19 in Douglas County.
Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters can check registration, polling places and sample ballots online before Election Day.
