West Ham have contacted Professional Game Match Officials for clarification after Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time equaliser against Arsenal was overturned following a VAR review.
Chris Kavanagh first allowed the goal, but VAR Darren England sent him to the monitor and officials ruled Pablo Felipe had fouled goalkeeper David Raya while Arsenal defended a corner.
Former Premier League referee Chris Foy said the decision was correct, arguing Felipe grabbed Raya’s arm in a “clear non-football action” that materially affected the goalkeeper.
Foy also defended the lengthy check, saying officials had multiple elements to review and handled one of the Premier League’s most debated VAR calls with calm teamwork.
The dispute has intensified scrutiny of grappling at set pieces, with West Ham also seeking the audio between Kavanagh and England after a decision that hit their league ambitions.
Did VAR's 'biggest moment' just create a new, stricter standard for fouls on goalkeepers?
Will this VAR controversy finally force officials to make their audio conversations public?
