Mitch Johnson said after Sunday's 117-110 loss in Minneapolis that the 7-foot-4 Spurs star was protecting himself when he struck Naz Reid, making it the first ejection of his career.
Wembanyama was given a Flagrant 2 after flailing his right arm into Reid's neck while Reid and Jaden McDaniels swarmed him and McDaniels tugged his left arm.
Johnson called the physical treatment of Wembanyama "disgusting" and said a Game 5 suspension would be ridiculous because there was "zero intent". Minnesota's win levelled the second-round series 2-2.
