Gloria Bullen, 92, recalled seeing a tank marked "St Malo" enter the German village on 28 April 1945 after her family’s 1942 deportation from Jersey.
She said more than 600 Channel Islanders were held in the castle camp, facing severe food shortages until Red Cross parcels arrived and living under heavy guard.
The deportations were ordered by Hitler in reprisal for Britain’s internment of Germans in Persia, and Bullen said losing three years of schooling remained the greatest lasting harm.
