The couple, held at Arizona's Florence Correctional Center, are due in court on Thursday after trying to enter from Mexico to reach their 18-year-old son in Chicago.
Kevin, a University of Chicago Medical Center patient with stage 4 colon cancer, recorded a goodbye message as his brother said he has stopped eating and may have only days left.
Their humanitarian visa request was denied because both had previously been deported from the US, while Mexican consular officials in Chicago and Tucson said they were coordinating with the family's lawyer.
