Employment insurance subscribers rise by 269,000 in April

South Korea's total reached 15.807 million, with gains driven mainly by people aged 60 and older, while manufacturing fell for an 11th month and construction for a 33rd.
Services added 284,000 subscribers, led by health and social welfare, accommodation and food, and business services, while under-29 subscribers fell by 64,000 and have declined for 44 straight months.
The job openings-to-seekers ratio improved to 0.45 from 0.43 a year earlier but remained below the 0.56 annual average, as unemployment benefit applicants and payouts both declined.
