The 74,000-square-foot, $60 million site opened at 6am near the I-81 exit at Mt Crawford, with shoppers filling the car park and forming block-long lines.
Visitors to the Texas-based chain’s first Virginia location received free logo T-shirts and found discounted petrol, smoked barbecue, sweets, jerky, gifts and household goods.
The opening highlighted Buc-ee’s strong fan following, with one local retired police captain likening the interstate stop to "the Disneyland of gas stations" as daily crowds continued.
