The shooting happened around 11pm at a home on Liberty Avenue in Pine Township, Porter County, involving Michigan City High School students, police and the school district said.
An 18-year-old woman and another juvenile were injured, while authorities said the shooting appeared isolated and posed no ongoing threat to the public.
Investigators have not identified the dead boy, announced arrests or disclosed a motive, and Michigan City Area Schools said counselling and support would be available.
