The South Carolina coach criticised an X post after Golden State cut Martin on 7 May while keeping Kaitlin Chen and Laeticia Amihere for its 2026 WNBA roster.
Staley said it was unfair to use Amihere's name in the reporter's framing and questioned whether the Valkyries would be covered impartially going forward.
Martin, a fan favourite from the 2024 expansion draft, had inconsistent production and a right quad strain, while coach Natalie Nakase cited Chen's offseason work and frontcourt needs with Iliana Rupert out indefinitely.
