After upsetting Chimaev to reclaim the UFC middleweight title on Saturday, Strickland said they embraced backstage and Chimaev even wrapped the belt around his waist.
Strickland said fighting created mutual respect, though he also suggested he may have imagined parts of their gym hostility and pre-fight animosity.
He said Chimaev is considering a move to 205 pounds, while Strickland expects his first title defence could be a rematch with Nassourdine Imavov.
