A week after Spirit halted operations, Peterson's TikTok-driven effort had drawn more than seven million views and at least $337 million in nonbinding pledges through letsbuyspiritair.com.
The proposal, likened to the Green Bay Packers' public ownership model, seeks to revive the budget carrier after it cancelled all flights on 2 May and began refunding most card-booked customers.
Spirit said failed restructuring, rising fuel costs and an inability to raise hundreds of millions in liquidity forced the shutdown, while voucher, travel credit and loyalty-point claims will go through bankruptcy.
