Chicago police said the 38-year-old driver and 18-year-old Damarion Johnson were shot on North Homan Avenue in Garfield Park just before 8:30pm Thursday.
Johnson, a Christ the King Jesuit senior, was riding home from basketball and was days from choosing a college on a full scholarship, while Uber said it was assisting investigators.
Video showed a grey SUV pull alongside the white sedan before gunfire erupted; no arrests have been announced, and Johnson's school has offered grief counselling.
