Dubois, 28, survived knockdowns after 10 seconds and in round three before the referee halted the Manchester bout in the 11th.
Wardley, fighting in front of an 18,000 crowd, was left bloodied with a damaged nose and swollen eye as doctors checked him twice before the stoppage.
The win gives Dubois a 23rd professional victory and a second world title, while Wardley suffered the first defeat of his 22-fight career and promoter Frank Warren said a rematch clause exists.
