The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the dead man as Douglas Bearden after Friday's shooting near the John A. Patten Community Center on Kellys Ferry Road.
Police said officers answered a fight or domestic assault call around 11:30 a.m., found Bearden in a nearby parking lot, and shots were fired about 10 minutes later.
TBI said Bearden fired a weapon, no officers were injured, and investigators said there was no public threat, though part of Kellys Ferry Road stayed closed and the community center shut temporarily.
