The 26-year-old was identified on Saturday after Friday's gun battle on Washington Street in Brown Park, South Omaha, where a Douglas County deputy was hit in the leg.
Sheriff Aaron Hanson said officers trying to arrest an armed man exchanged fire with him; the wounded deputy was treated with a tourniquet and taken to Nebraska Medicine in stable condition.
Omaha Police and Nebraska State Patrol are assisting the investigation, while streets remained blocked and residents were urged to avoid the area as authorities cleared the scene.
